Ford 352 V8 Engine

The Ford 352 V8 was first introduced in 1958 and would stay in the Ford lineup up through 1966. The 352 also was part a long running series (1958-1976) of Ford engines known as the “FE” which means Ford-Edsel. For 1958, the 352 would be the only engine used in the second generation Thunderbird until the Ford 430 made its appearance a year later. By 1959 the 352 would be used in most of the Ford lineup including the Galaxie 500 and the Fairlane 500. The 352 is often referred to as the Interceptor which was a name that Ford gave the engine model. Many people claim that an Interceptor engine was a high performance model that were used by police while others claim that this model was nothing more than a base 352 engine with a 2 barrel carburetor.

352 Interceptor
The 352 engine as a regular production engine was rated at 300 HP with 4 bbl carburation from 1958 thru 1960. In 1961 it was detuned to 220 HP with a 2 bbl carb when the 390 replaced it. It continued on at that rateing until 1965 when the 4 bbl returned for 250 HP for 3 more years and was replaced by the 351 CI engine, of the same internal dimension. The Interseptor engine of significance was the 1960 360 HP with solid lifters and 4 bbl carb. It came with an aluminum intake manifold and cast iron headers. This was a real screamer available only with heavy duty 3 speed W/OD. This engine was expanded in 1961 to create the 390 CI 375 HP engine.
