Ford 292 V8 Engine
The Ford 292 V8 engine first appeared in 1955 and was used in Ford production cars until the end of 1962. Ford kept their 292 V8 around for the popular Ford F-100 pick-up truck until 1964. The Ford 292 gained quite a bit of popularity due to the fact that it was used as the standard base engine in the all new Ford Thunderbird. It also was used in the Ford Fairlane as well as several models of the Ford Station Wagon. Another interesting fact regarding the 292 was that its crankshaft was often used by car enthusiast (with some machining and custom pistons) to increase the stroke in the Ford 289 engine that appeared in 1963.

Comments
The 56 T-birds were offered with two different V8 motors depending on what you wanted. The 292 was the standard V8 and there was also a Ford 312 V8 that was considered an upgrade. Either way the firing order for both engines is 15486372. The 312 v8 was only produced for two years 1956 and 57 so it might be a little hard to find a lot of info on them.
I have never seen y-block firing order on dist. caps. Earlier intake manifolds, '54-56, have the FO cast into their top surface.
