Chevrolet 302 V8 Engine

The Chevrolet 302 V8 engine was produced mainly for the Camaro Z28 from 1967 to 1969 to be used in Club of America Trans Am racing. At the time in order to compete in Trans Am racing, a car’s engine had to be 305 cubic inches or less. One of the most interesting facts about the Chevy 302 was that GM gave it an official horsepower rating of 290 but if hooked up to a dynamometer, the actual output was anywhere between 360 to 400 horsepower. This gave racers a serious edge when it came to having a Chevy 302 under the hood. These engines produced even more horsepower than the popular Chevy 396 that was also used in the Camaro.

What wonderful memories I have of my 1967 Z28 with its 302.
I could pull low 13's with it-without doing one modification.

If only I had realized what I had and given it the respect it deserved.

I remember my 1969 Z/28 RS.
I could not believe the acceleration the first day I bought it.
Sure wish I still had it. I knew the 290HP rating had to be wrong!
